His Light, Your Path

Excuses, Excuses

God's invitation to salvation is freely offered, but many miss its blessing because they choose excuses instead of faith.

Jesus often encountered people who were willing to discuss spiritual matters but unwilling to respond to the truth. In the parable of the great supper, those who had been invited offered excuse after excuse for why they could not come. Their reasons may have sounded important, but the reality was that they simply did not want to accept the invitation. Through this illustration, Jesus was addressing the spiritual condition of many in Israel who were rejecting Him as their Messiah despite the opportunity that had been placed before them.

The message serves as a reminder that God continues to call people to Himself today. Too often, individuals allow possessions, responsibilities, relationships, or other distractions to keep them from responding to God's invitation. The Gospel is freely offered, but each person must decide whether to make excuses or respond in faith. The question is not whether God is calling, but whether we are willing to listen.
