His Light, Your Path

Let Your Light Shine

Believers are called to faithfully use their God-given abilities to serve others and glorify God while walking in true humility.

As believers, we are called to let our light shine in this world, but we must always remember that the glory belongs to God and not to ourselves. Scripture teaches both humility and faithful service, and these truths do not contradict one another. God has given every believer abilities and opportunities to serve Him, and those gifts are to be used so that others may see Christ and be pointed to the truth of the Gospel. Whether through preaching, teaching, helping, or simply serving others faithfully, believers are to use what God has given them for His glory.

Jesus Christ is the perfect example of this balance between power and humility. Though He is the Son of God, He humbled Himself and became a servant, obedient even unto death on the cross. As Christians, we are not to seek attention or praise for ourselves, but we are to faithfully do the work God has called us to do. When believers walk humbly before God and serve Him faithfully, their light will shine in a way that points others to Him.

Luke 14:7-11

7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, 8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; 9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. 10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. 11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Proverbs 27:2

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
