Every believer will one day stand before God to give an account for how life was lived after salvation. Salvation itself is not in question, for eternal life is freely given through faith in Jesus Christ, but the believer’s works and service for God will be examined. Scripture teaches that the things done for Christ will endure like gold, silver, and precious stones, while the wasted and fleshly things of life will be burned away. It is a sobering reminder that only what is done for the Lord will truly last into eternity.
Yet there is also great comfort in this truth. One day the failures, regrets, and sinful memories that burden believers now will be gone forever. God has promised to remember our sins no more, and there is coming a day when every tear will be wiped away in His presence. Because of that, believers should seek to live faithfully for God now, looking ahead to eternity and the joy of being with Him forever.
