The storms of life come to every person. Trials, hardships, disappointments, and difficulties are not reserved for only a few people, but the difference is found in the foundation upon which a life is built. Jesus used the simple illustration of two houses that outwardly appeared very similar, yet one stood firm while the other collapsed when the storms came. The issue was not the appearance of the house, but the foundation underneath it.
In the same way, people may appear very similar outwardly, yet their lives can be built upon entirely different foundations. A life built upon the truth of God’s Word is strengthened for the trials that will surely come. A life built only upon worldly thinking and temporary things will eventually fail under the pressure of life’s storms. Each person is building a life day by day, and the foundation chosen today will determine how that life stands tomorrow.
