Colossians 2:6
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
This verse addresses two crucial aspects of faith: salvation and daily living.
Salvation by Faith
Paul reminds the believers in Colossae to reflect on their salvation. They were saved by faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. As Ephesians 2:8-9 emphasizes, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Salvation is a gift from God, not something earned by human efforts.
When Nicodemus, a religious leader, sought Jesus for salvation, Jesus explained how to attain eternal life. John 3:16 captures this beautifully: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus made it clear that salvation comes through faith in His shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection.
Living by Faith
The second aspect of faith is the daily walk of a believer. Once saved by faith, God wants believers to live by faith. Colossians 2:6 urges us to “walk ye in him.” This means that just as we received Jesus by faith for salvation, we must also live daily by faith.
Believers are often referred to as “believers” because they trust God for their eternal salvation. However, when it comes to daily living, many struggle with doubt. It seems contradictory to trust God for eternity but not for the challenges of today. Paul challenges us to live daily by faith, trusting God in every aspect of our lives.
A Personal Challenge
Have you trusted Jesus for your eternal salvation? It is the most important decision you will ever make. Consider the significance of where you will spend eternity. After trusting Jesus as your Savior, remember to live daily by faith. Colossians 2:6 encourages us to walk in Him, reflecting our faith in our daily actions and decisions.
