Discovering God’s Truth

How Not to Do It (Part 1 of 2)

True spiritual power is found not through human effort and manipulation, but through trusting God and doing things His way.

God desires believers to live in His strength and power, yet far too often people try to accomplish spiritual things through human effort alone. In this message, the life of Jacob is used as an example of how not to tap into the power of God. Jacob recognized the value of the birthright and the blessing, but instead of trusting God to work in His own time and way, Jacob took matters into his own hands through manipulation, deception, and human scheming. Though he desired something good, he pursued it the wrong way.

The message reminds believers that it is never right to do wrong in order to accomplish what seems spiritually right. Jacob should have trusted God rather than forcing circumstances according to his own wisdom. Too often Christians live the same way today, trying to serve God in their own strength while neglecting prayer, dependence upon the Lord, and submission to His will. True spiritual power is not found in human ability, effort, or cleverness, but in walking closely with Christ and allowing Him to strengthen and guide every area of life.
