Beams

After committing a great sin with Bathsheba and orchestrating the murder of her husband Uriah, David spent a year without confessing his wrongdoing. It was then that God sent the prophet Nathan to confront him.

Nathan told David a parable about a rich man who took a poor man’s only lamb to prepare a meal for a traveler. David, angered by the injustice, declared that the rich man deserved to die. Nathan then revealed that David himself was the man in the story, highlighting David’s inability to see his own sin.

This story is a profound reminder for us today. We often see the faults in others while ignoring our own. Jesus addressed this in Matthew 7:3, asking why we notice the speck in our brother’s eye but fail to see the beam in our own eye.

Matthew 7:3
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Let us take this lesson to heart and strive to recognize and confess our own shortcomings. Doing so allows us to grow closer to God and live a more righteous life.
