In our walk with God, spiritual growth is essential. Just as newborn babies need milk to grow, new believers need the milk of God’s Word to develop spiritually. This truth is beautifully illustrated in 1 Peter 2:1-3, where we are encouraged to grow in the Lord.
1 Peter 2:1–3 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
However, as we mature in our Christian walk, we must move beyond the basics and seek a deeper understanding of God’s Word.
Hebrews 5:12–14 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Salvation is just the beginning; it is the foundation of our faith. As we grow, we are called to apply ourselves to Biblical knowledge and appropriate behavior, becoming fruitful in our service to God. This process of spiritual growth is crucial for every believer, as it leads to maturity and the ability to teach others.
