How to Change

Change is a fundamental aspect of the Christian life. Once we trust Jesus as our Savior, then begins the spiritual growth process. Proverbs 16:3 provides a profound insight into this process:

Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, And thy thoughts shall be established.

This transformation is not merely about outward compliance, which can lead to hypocrisy, but about a genuine internal change. As believers, we are called to put off our old ways and embrace new behaviors that reflect the character of Christ.

Ephesians 4:22–24 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

The struggle between our old and new nature is real and often challenging. However, our commitment to God is the key to overcoming these struggles. Even when we don’t fully understand or agree with what we are learning, we are called to commit our works to the Lord. This commitment leads to a transformation in our thoughts, aligning them with God’s will.

It’s important to remember that feelings often follow commitment. If we wait until we feel like making a change, we may never do it. Instead, by committing to God’s ways first, our feelings and thoughts will eventually align with our actions.
